Adaptive career stats

March 13, 2014   by Serge Knystautas

We're excited to offer adaptive career stats to all of our website customers with this week's software update.

For years, everyone has had to upload Stat Crew reports which don't look good for mobile users. This drove us to create adaptive designs for all of our sites in 2009 and develop enhanced stats reports to give fans access to stats no matter how they look at our sites.  Back then, only 11% fan traffic was from a mobile device, but as of March 2014, our traffic reports show that 36% are using mobile devices!

This week's software update version 5.5.5 set to go live Friday morning will give all of our customers the ability to add career stats to our enhanced stats reports and their enhanced bios.  Here are screenshots of what our enhanced stats reports look like for both desktop and mobile devices.

How to get started

Career stats are driven by the Stats Roster in Game day.  There is a new column now that shows the number of seasons for each player, and a button to edit that player's career.  When you click "edit career" for that player, you'll be shown a pop up to pick that person in the previous seasons, or future seasons if you're editing in the past.  The system will guess at who the player was in previous seasons based on their name so for most cases, it should be very simple and quick to do.

Once you save that player's career, the stats roster will show the updated number of seasons.  If you make any mistakes, you're free to make any corrections.

Preview what it looks like

After you've updated the career in the Stats Roster, a Career tab will begin to show up on your enhanced stats and enhanced bios page. (Note that this software release also makes setting up enhanced bios easier, but will take more about that in an upcoming blog.)  You do need to have already added stats pages for players for all seasons, which the Season setup tool can help you do if you haven't already.

Please give these reports a few minutes to update as it takes a while for these career calculations across seasons to run.  This Career tab will only show up for you if you're signed in, so your fans won't see this while you're trying this out.

Make it live for fans

When you're satisfied with the career stats, you can make it visible to your fans by editing your options and changing "Show career stats" to yes.  This option will make this new tab show up for your fans.  You can configure this in your options either across your entire site or for a specific sport.

Step-by-step setup instructions will be available in the Help Center under the Game day/Career stats tab but if you have any questions, please contact support@prestosports.com.  Also if you'd like to add enhanced bios to your site, we'd be happy to get you set up with that as well.

What this opens up...

We have spent the past five years building adapative stat reports that match Stat Crew Legacy as it's the undisputed king of stat reports for NCAA members.  We have built virtually all season-specific reports that Stat Crew Legacy has, and now with this change to track players' across season, this career tab is the first of many additional reports we can create.

Career highs, team highs, record books... enhanced stats has a very bright future!
